F. Neale Quenzel

Bio

The camera and photography have been my primary means of creative expression for the past 35 years. During this period I photographed extensively all over the world in conjunction with the travels required by my careers. I retired in 2000 which gave me the time necessary to explore other forms of art such as drawing and painting. Today I use various mediums including oil, watercolor, gouache and ink. My paintings and drawings involve primarily man-made subjects however also animals, people and landscapes. I have received various awards and display my work in numerous local venues. I maintain a Facebook page facebook.com/mikebergenart in order to showcase my more recent work and discuss my processes.

Neale is a painter of land, sea, and sky ‘scapes. He is always searching for ways to express and interpret the many moods of light as it illuminates the beauty of the natural world which surrounds us.

Living most of his life in Pennsylvania, Neale is fascinated by the Oregon coast and the Willamette Valley, his new home. The dual seasons here, one muted and grey, one bright and sunny, provides the opportunity to explore two varied pallets of hues and two distinctly different styles of painting.

His art education commenced in Fine Arts at Syracuse University, where he obtained his masters degree in Architecture. As a water colorist, he studied under Rea Redifer and Philip Jamison, both Brandywine Valley artists, and Carl Schmalz of Bowdoin College in Maine. Upon retirement as a restoration architect, Neale turned his energy to painting in oils under the instruction of Karen Leffel-Massengill, a marine and landscape painter in Florida.
