Color and shapes are the inspiration that make Cherrill reach for a canvas and tubes of acrylic paint - the subject matter is often of secondary importance.
Scenes of travel far and wide are rendered in an impressionist's style. Animals are also a favorite subject matter.
Cherrill works directly on the canvas using water color as a base to block in shapes and color areas, often drawing with watercolor pencils or a brush. Occasionally, paintings are pure abstractions using pastel, ink, watercolor, acrylic, leaving interpretation of the work to the viewer.
