Introducing our New Artists

Ken Pate
I started making pottery in 1974 while attending Oregon State University.  My roommate, Chris Gum and I were seniors and a bit directionless at the time so we decided to take a ceramics class. Both of us were captivated, especially because we found we could sell everything we made.  For the next 25 years it was my livelihood, as well as for Chris.  Fast forward to Y2K when my wife and I “retired.”  I went back to school at the University of Oregon to study printmaking and 2D work in general.  It was my good fortune to learn printmaking from Peggy Prentice while also taking drawing  and design classes from Ron Graff.  Both had a great influence on me and I’m very thankful for their help and guidance.

My latest works are a set of nature-scapes in oil on Ampersand panels and gallery-edged canvases. My childhood camping trips, motorhome travels, and frequent travels up and down Hwy 99 have landed me in spectacular scenery, that I am compelled to paint!  I experiment with underpainting, layering, dripping, sgraffito, and intense color contrast to add texture and depth. In the past year, I completed a 30-day portrait challenge and week-long residency.

Regular visitors to the gallery know that we refresh the walls each first Monday of the month with new work by our members.

Featured Artist: Linda Ohlson

This month we feature nature inspired art. Linda Ohlson gets her inspiration from her garden and on walks or hikes. The love of the outdoors has always been her passion, her love.
   “Life’s too valuable to waste on things that don’t spark joy.” (Source unknown) Nature sparks joy for Linda.
   Linda joined the gallery in 2015 and shows both fused glass jewelry and paintings. This show will feature her jewelry as well as mixed media paintings, and other fused glass works of art.
